Self adhesive stabiliser is hooped, then the backing paper is scored and peeled off. The fabric is simply laid on top – with no ironing and without being hooped itself.

This is the answer for everything that does not fit in the hoop or cannot take it: collars, cuffs, pockets, small pieces and delicate fabrics on which the hoop would leave marks.

With velvet, faux leather and coated fabrics it is the safe choice too, as neither heat nor hooping is needed. The fabric only rests on the adhesive surface and stays undamaged.

After stitching, the excess is peeled away. Adhesive residue on the needle can be removed with a little alcohol; change the needle if it becomes noticeably sticky.

When should I use self adhesive stabiliser?

When the fabric cannot or should not be hooped: collars, cuffs, small pieces, velvet and coated fabrics. On finished garments it is often the only way.

Does the needle get sticky while stitching?

It can, especially with dense designs. Clean the needle occasionally with a little alcohol or change it if the thread starts to break.

Does the adhesive hold heavy fabrics too?

On small areas, yes. Large or heavy pieces pull at the adhesive with their own weight; there, extra basting or a firmer stabiliser makes sense.
