Unlike terry, the surface does not stand up in loops but forms flat recesses. This makes the fabric lighter, less bulky and much quicker to dry after washing.

That makes it popular for guest towels, tea towels and light bathrobes, but also for blankets and cushion covers, where the texture sets a quiet accent.

Waffle piqué shrinks noticeably in the first wash, because the structure contracts. Always wash the fabric before cutting, otherwise the finished towel turns out smaller than planned.

Is waffle piqué as absorbent as terry?

Slightly less, but it dries faster and is less bulky. For guest towels, tea towels and light bathrobes the absorbency is entirely sufficient.

How much does the fabric shrink?

Noticeably, because the cells contract in the wash. Expect real shrinkage and wash before cutting at the temperature you will later use.

Is waffle piqué suitable for clothing?

Yes, for bathrobes, beach dresses and loose summer pieces. For close fitting designs it stretches too little; choose styles with ease.
