Because the grid is open, mesh dries very quickly and traps no heat. That is exactly why it appears in sportswear, in the inner pockets of rucksacks and in bags where the contents need to stay ventilated.

The mesh size determines the use: fine meshes suit linings and laundry bags, coarser ones shopping nets and pockets where you want to see what is inside.

Sew with a fine needle and moderate presser foot pressure so the fabric is not pulled into the needle plate. The edges do not fray, as this is a knitted structure.

Does mesh fabric fray?

No, the loops interlock and do not come undone at the cut edge. You can leave the edge raw or bind it with bias tape for a neat finish.

Which mesh size should I choose?

A fine one for linings and laundry bags so nothing slips through. A coarser one for shopping nets and pockets, where you want to see through and recognise the contents quickly.

Is mesh suitable for sportswear?

Yes, especially in areas that need ventilation: under the arms, across the back or as an insert. The open structure lets heat escape and the fabric dries again very quickly.
