Depending on the design they are clamped, screwed or glued. Clamped caps hold best when the cord fits the opening exactly – too thin slips out, too thick cannot be inserted.

For glued versions, use an adhesive that bonds textile to metal. Superglue is usually enough; for heavily used ends a two part adhesive is the safer choice.

Weight is a side effect worth using deliberately: a heavy cap pulls the cord straight down instead of letting it vanish into the channel.

Seal the cord end before fitting. With synthetic fibre a brief touch of flame is enough, otherwise the cord keeps fraying inside the cap.

How do I attach an end cap properly?

Clamp, screw or glue depending on the design. What matters is that the cord sits snugly in the opening – seal the end first so it does not keep fraying inside.

Which size do I need?

The one matching your cord size, stated with the article. An opening that is too wide will not hold, one that is too narrow cannot be fitted without crushing the cord.

What is the weight of the cap for?

It keeps the cord straight and stops it slipping back into the channel. On hoods that is practical, as the ends otherwise disappear in the wash.
