Much of what is left over from sewing can be used again: fabric scraps become appliqué, ribbons become bows, buttons become decoration. The right supplies turn them into finished pieces without any sewing.

Fabric glue bonds cloth permanently and suits places that are hard to sew. Check whether the glue is washable – irrelevant for decoration, decisive for clothing.

For children the rule is: as few steps as possible and materials that forgive mistakes. Felt, thick needles and glue instead of a machine lead more quickly to a result worth showing off.

Does fabric glue hold permanently?

For decoration yes. On clothing it depends on whether the glue is washable; that is stated on the packaging. Heavily stressed areas should be sewn as well, because glue gives way eventually.

What can I make from fabric scraps?

Appliqué, hair ties, garlands, coasters, pin cushions or key rings. Small scraps also work as stuffing or as test pieces for trying out new techniques.

Which materials suit children?

Felt, thick needles, embroidery thread and glue. Felt does not fray and does not tear when pulled firmly – so a project succeeds even without much practice.
