Fixieren, Verstärken & Einlagen

Fusible interfacings carry an adhesive coating that bonds with the fabric under heat and pressure. It is important to place the iron down and hold it rather than glide – otherwise the interfacing shifts and creases.

The choice depends on the outer fabric: light interfacings suit thin fabrics, firm ones suit bags and waistbands that should stand on their own. Interfacing that is too firm makes a garment stiff, one that is too soft gives too little support.

For appliqué there are fusible webs coated on both sides: they hold the motif in place before you stitch it down. Volume fleece, by contrast, is thick and soft and gives blankets, pot holders and bags their padding.
