Unlike wide decorative lace, lingerie lace is all about comfort. The trims are finely made and add almost no bulk, so they do not show through clothing.

Sew with a fine needle and a narrow zigzag that keeps the lace flat while still giving a little. On stretchy lingerie the seam has to move with the fabric, otherwise it tears when the garment is put on.

As a finish the lace often replaces the hem: it is laid on the edge and stitched down so no additional turning is needed. That saves thickness and looks neater.

Can I use lingerie lace instead of a hem?

Yes, that is its classic use. The lace is sewn onto the cut edge and forms the finish. No additional layer of fabric is created that would add bulk under clothing.

Which stitch suits lingerie lace?

A narrow zigzag. It keeps the lace flat and gives way on stretchy lingerie. A plain straight stitch would tear when stretched, particularly at leg openings and bands.

Does lace scratch the skin?

Fine lingerie laces are softly made and designed to lie directly against the skin. Coarse decorative lace from the home section is less suitable for underwear.
