Small, regular patterns read almost as a surface from a distance. They do not steal attention from a main motif and are at the same time livelier than a solid shade.

With stripes and arranged dots, mind the orientation. Lay all pattern pieces the same way and align the lines at the side seams, and the finished piece looks clean.

Handle the fabric like any cotton jersey: pre wash, jersey needle, stretch stitch. For stripe matched cutting, allow a little extra length.

How much extra fabric do stripes need?

For narrow stripes one extra repeat is usually enough. With wide stripes or many pieces it can be more; calculated generously, enough remains for cuffing.

Are printed or knitted stripes better?

Knitted stripes follow the loops exactly and do not distort. Printed ones can sit minimally askew; in that case align your cut with the print rather than the grain.

Do dots and stripes go together?

Yes, if one colour links them and the scales differ. A fine stripe with large dots looks coherent, while two patterns of similar size look restless.
