The long pile traps a lot of air and therefore keeps you warmer than flat fleece of similar weight. At the same time it adds more bulk, which is worth considering for close fitting designs.

Because fleece is not woven, it does not fray. Blankets can simply be cut and at most hemmed for looks. That makes it a rewarding fabric for quick projects.

When sewing, mind the pile: it lies in one direction, and pieces with different orientations look different in brightness later. Lay all pattern pieces the same way.

What is the difference from ordinary fleece?

The length and softness of the pile. Cuddle fleece has longer fibres, feels softer and keeps you warmer, but is also bulkier and less suited to close fitting designs.

Does cuddle fleece shed when cut?

Yes, fine fibres come loose. Cut over a surface you can shake out afterwards, and vacuum your machine occasionally, as lint collects around the hook.

Is cuddle fleece suitable for baby blankets?

Yes, it is soft and washable. Make sure no loose fibres can be inhaled and wash the blanket before first use.
