Piqué jersey combines the stretch of knitted fabric with the characteristic honeycomb texture. It is firmer than plain jersey, drapes more calmly and is used above all for polo shirts, dresses and children's clothes.

The honeycomb holds the fabric slightly away from the skin. That makes it feel cooler than a plain jersey of the same weight and helps it carry moisture away.

At the same time the texture gives body. A collar in piqué jersey keeps its shape, a skirt hangs straight instead of clinging – which sets it clearly apart from soft single jersey.

Sew with a jersey needle and a stretch stitch. When pressing, use little pressure so the honeycomb is not flattened and does not lose its effect.

How does piqué jersey differ from woven piqué?

The jersey is knitted and stretches, the woven fabric stays stable. Patterns needing stretch require the jersey, structured pieces the woven version.

Is piqué jersey suitable for polo shirts?

Yes, that is its classic use. The texture gives the collar support and the shirt body, without looking stiff or restricting movement.

Is piqué jersey opaque?

Usually yes, because the structure is denser than thin single jersey. With very pale colours it is still worth holding it up to the light before cutting.
