Viscose is made from cellulose and behaves somewhere between cotton and silk: absorbent like cotton, smooth and cool like silk. That makes it pleasant in summer and gives garments the drape that firm fabric cannot provide.

Cutting takes patience. The fabric slips and distorts easily if it hangs over the edge of the table. Lay it out completely and work with weights instead of pins.

Sew with a fine jersey needle and a stretch stitch. A walking foot, or simply guiding calmly, stops the seam from rippling. Wash before cutting, as viscose shrinks.

Why does viscose jersey drape so softly?

The fibres are smoother and heavier than cotton, so the fabric hangs down rather than standing away. That produces the flowing drape sought for dresses and tunics.

Does viscose shrink a lot?

More noticeably than cotton. Always wash the fabric before cutting and dry it flat, because wet viscose stretches lengthways under its own weight.

How do I stop the fabric slipping while cutting?

Lay it flat and fully on the table, use weights instead of pins and cut with a rotary cutter. Anything hanging over the edge distorts immediately.
