Flowing fabrics show patterns differently from stiff ones: the motif breaks in the folds, disappears and reappears. Large scale prints and floral patterns come into their own because of that.

The same cutting rules apply as for plain viscose: lay it flat, weights instead of pins, rotary cutter. With directional patterns, all pieces should face the same way.

Sew with a fine jersey needle and a stretch stitch. Press from the reverse at moderate temperature, as viscose is sensitive to heat and the print can become shiny.

Do patterns look different on viscose than on cotton?

Yes. Because the fabric drapes rather than stands, the pattern breaks in the folds. Large motifs therefore look softer and less bold than on firm cotton.

Can I combine viscose jersey with cuffing?

Yes, though the cuffing should not be too firm, or it will pull the soft fabric together. Many viscose patterns manage without cuffing altogether and use hems instead.

How do I press viscose correctly?

From the reverse, at moderate temperature and with little steam. Pressing too hot can create shiny marks that cannot be removed. A pressing cloth adds protection.
