The low weight is a practical advantage: on a cardigan a wooden button does not drag the band downwards, whereas heavy metal buttons can distort the edge over time.

Wood tolerates neither prolonged wet nor high temperatures. Wash clothing with wooden buttons cool and do not tumble dry it, or the buttons can roughen or crack.

On delicate pieces it is worth removing the buttons before washing. Sewn on with a thread shank they are easier to take off again than when attached flat.

The button has to match the buttonhole: measure the diameter and cut the hole slightly larger than the button plus its thickness – otherwise it is hard to push through.

Are wooden buttons washable?

With cool washing, yes. Hot washing, tumble drying and long soaking damage the material; the wood can roughen, swell or crack. On delicate pieces it is better to remove them.

How large does the buttonhole need to be?

Slightly larger than the diameter of the button, plus its thickness. With thick buttons allow more, otherwise the button can only be forced through with difficulty.

Why do the buttons look different from each other?

Because wood is a natural product. Grain and shade vary from piece to piece. For a uniform look, buy all the buttons for one project at once.
