Many flowers are made of monofilament or organza with heat sealed edges. They therefore do not fray and keep their shape even when handled repeatedly.

They are usually attached with a few stitches through the centre, often together with a bead or rhinestone that hides the stitching. That is quick and holds well.

For gluing, use a fabric adhesive that stays flexible. Superglue dries hard and breaks off at the first movement.

For clothing that gets washed, sewing is the safe choice. Glued flowers come off in the machine and leave visible adhesive behind.

Sew if the item will be washed – glued flowers come off in the machine. Gluing is fine for decorations that see no wear, on wreaths or picture frames for instance.

How do I hide the stitching in the centre?

With a bead, a rhinestone or a small button. They are caught with the same thread and cover the stitches completely.

Do the flowers fray?

Not with monofilament and organza with heat sealed edges. Flowers in cotton fabric can fray at the edges over time, which often looks intentional.
