Small details decide whether a handmade piece looks finished. Charms, beads, pompoms, bows and sewn-in labels give bags, clothing and soft toys their finishing touch.

Woven and faux leather labels are usually folded into a seam so that only the front remains visible. That looks neat and lasts, because the label is secured by the seam itself.
Charms, flowers and pompoms are sewn or hooked on. On children's clothes and toys, sew them on especially firmly: small parts must not come loose, as they could be swallowed.
Beads and sequins add sparkle but call for hand work. Sew them on individually with strong thread and fasten off carefully so nothing comes away in the wash.
Good to know
How do I attach a label neatly?
Place it into the seam while sewing the pieces together so only the printed side stays visible. That way it is caught firmly and does not come loose even after many washes.
Are embellishments suitable for children's clothes?
With reservations. Small protruding parts can come loose and be swallowed. On baby items either sew charms and beads on especially firmly or leave them off.
How do I stop beads from coming off?
Sew them on individually with strong thread and knot the ends carefully. With one continuous seam the whole row comes undone as soon as a single thread breaks.
