Films

Films are waterproof, wipe clean and do not fray. They are used for wash bags, changing bags, tablecloths, windows in bags and for shiny accents on decorative projects.

Clear and frosted films let you see what is inside the bag – practical for wash bags and pencil cases. Glitter films sit on a backing and add sparkling accents to flaps, bags and appliqué.

While sewing, film sticks to the presser foot. A teflon foot, a roller foot or a strip of paper between foot and material solves this immediately. Pins leave permanent holes, so work with clips instead.

Film is not pressed. Creases can be eased carefully at a low setting with a cloth in between, whereas direct heat deforms the material at once.

Frequently asked questions

Why does film stick to the presser foot?

The smooth surface grips the metal and slows the feed. With a teflon or roller foot the material glides evenly; alternatively lay paper over the seam and tear it away afterwards.

Can I press film?

Better not. Direct heat deforms or melts the material. Creases hang out by themselves over time; if necessary, ease them at a low temperature with a cloth in between.

How do I avoid holes in the material?

Use fabric clips instead of pins and sew with a longer stitch. Every seam stays visible, so make sure the pieces are correctly positioned before you sew.
