Snap Pliers and Accessories

Snap fasteners only hold if they are set cleanly. Snap pliers press both halves together evenly without damaging the fabric – and give a far more reliable result than a hammer and a block.

The pliers work with interchangeable dies that have to match the size and type of the snap. Only with the right die is the fastener deformed evenly and sits firmly afterwards.

Make sure that pliers and snaps belong together. Different systems have different diameters, and a snap that does not fit the die is pressed crooked or damaged.

Reinforce thin fabrics at the setting point with a piece of interfacing. Otherwise the material tears around the fastener once it is opened and closed frequently.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate die for every snap size?

As a rule yes. The dies are matched to diameter and construction. Check which fasteners you intend to use before buying so that tool and snap fit together.

Why does my snap not hold?

Usually too little pressure was applied or the wrong die was used. Fabric that is too thin and not reinforced is another common cause, as the fastener then finds no firm seat.

Can it be done without pliers?

There are setting tools used with a hammer. They cost less but need more practice, because the pressure is harder to control than with pliers.
