The hoop consists of two rings between which the fabric is placed. A screw adjusts the tension so that thicker materials can be held as well and the fabric does not slip out of the frame.

The size depends on the design: small hoops sit comfortably in the hand and suit small motifs, large hoops take in more area and save frequent repositioning.

Release the hoop when you take a break. If the fabric stays clamped for a long time the ring edges leave marks, and on delicate materials those traces are hard to press out again.

Which hoop size do I need?

Large enough for the design to fit without repositioning. Small hoops sit better in the hand, large ones save working steps on designs that cover more area.

How tightly should I tension the fabric?

Smooth but without stretching it. Over tightening distorts the weave, and the finished design looks skewed or rippled once the hoop is released.

Can I leave the fabric in the hoop?

Better not for long periods. The ring edges press in and leave marks that are hard to remove from delicate fabrics.
