Toy filling is made of fine polyester fibres that do not clump together. The finished piece therefore stays evenly filled, even after repeated washing and drying.

Add the filling in small portions and work from the ends towards the middle. A stick helps to push it into arms, legs and ears, where hollow spots easily remain otherwise.

How firmly you fill determines the character: a tightly stuffed toy stands on its own, a loosely filled one is softer and invites cuddling. The same applies to cushions, though there less firmness is usually wanted.

How much filling do I need?

That depends on the size and the firmness you want. Plan for a little more: topping up is awkward once the piece is closed, and leftover filling can always be used again.

Can filled soft toys be washed?

Yes, if both fabric and filling are washable. Wash gently and let the toy dry through completely. Afterwards knead it lightly to distribute the filling evenly again.

How do I avoid lumps in the filling?

Add it in small portions rather than large clumps and pull the fibres apart beforehand. A stick helps to distribute it evenly into the corners and limbs.
