Bag closures are usually fitted to the flap and need a stable base. Reinforce the spot with interfacing or a second piece of fabric, otherwise the material tears out over time.

Toggle fastenings are typical of duffle coats and jackets: they can be operated even with gloves on and work as a design feature. Belt and dungaree fastenings are built for strain and sit where a lot of force is applied.

Check what tools are required before buying: many metal fastenings need pliers or a setting tool. Without the right tool the fastening cannot be attached cleanly.
