Spray Adhesive

Spray adhesive bonds fabric and stabiliser temporarily. Nothing shifts, and you do not have to pin or iron – particularly practical with appliqué, small pieces and delicate fabrics.

The adhesive is sprayed thinly onto the stabiliser, not onto the fabric. You then lay the fabric on and smooth it down. The bond holds long enough for stitching and releases afterwards.

Using it sparingly is essential. Too much adhesive builds up on needle and hook and causes thread breaks. A brief burst from about thirty centimetres away is usually enough.

Never spray near the machine, but into a box or onto a covered surface. Fine mist otherwise settles on guides and moving parts.

Frequently asked questions

Does the adhesive stay in the fabric?

No, common products wash out without residue. Check the manufacturer's information if the finished piece is not going to be washed.

How much adhesive do I need?

Very little. A brief burst from about thirty centimetres away covers one hoop area. Too much adhesive gums up needle and hook and causes thread breaks.

Do I spray the fabric or the stabiliser?

The stabiliser. That keeps the fabric free of adhesive, which matters especially on pale and fine qualities where residue would show.
