Fadenkaefer

Fadenkäfer stands for everyday clothes that really get worn: hoodies, shirt jackets, culottes and dresses for women and children. The patterns come to you as printed paper sheets.

Paper patterns have a practical advantage over ebooks: nothing has to be printed and taped together. The sheet is laid out, the size you want is traced or cut directly, and you can start.

Check the recommended fabric type. A pattern for stretchy knits turns out quite differently in woven cloth, because the ease needed for getting dressed is missing. That information is given on every pattern.

Take your measurements before cutting and follow the size chart rather than your usual clothing size. For tops the chest measurement usually decides, for trousers the hips.

Frequently asked questions

Are the patterns suitable for beginners?

Many are, especially designs with few pieces and no zip. Start with a hoodie or trousers with an elastic waistband before tackling shirt jackets with collars and button bands.

Which sizes are included?

That is stated with each pattern, and a size range is usually covered. Check before buying whether your measurements fall within it, as patterns can only be adjusted to a limited extent.

Do I have to trace the paper pattern?

If you want to sew several sizes from one sheet, yes. Trace the line you need onto tissue paper, and the original sheet stays intact for other sizes.
