All three share one thing: they pull at a single point of the fabric. Without reinforcement they tear out over time – a piece of firm interfacing, faux leather or an extra patch behind the spot solves it.

Magnetic snaps are pushed through the fabric with two prongs and bent over at the back. The washer belongs in between, or the prongs cut into the fabric.

Tuck locks and twist locks need an opening in the fabric. Mark it with the supplied template and cut sparingly – an opening that is too large cannot be disguised.

Fit the fastening before the lining goes in. Afterwards you cannot reach the back without unpicking the bag again.

Why do I have to reinforce the spot?

Because the fastening pulls at a single point. Without reinforcement the prongs or screws tear out over time. A piece of firm interfacing or faux leather spreads the pull.

When should I fit the fastening?

Before the lining is sewn in. Afterwards the back is no longer accessible and you would have to unpick the bag to reach the fixing.

Magnet or tuck lock?

Magnetic snaps open quickly and silently but take less strain. Tuck locks and twist locks sit more securely and look more classic, but need a cleanly cut opening.
