Jacquardborte

In a jacquard trim the pattern is formed from coloured yarns during weaving. It cannot wash out or rub away – the difference from printed tapes shows after a few washes at the latest.

Because the colours sit in the yarn, the outlines stay sharp. That makes jacquard trims a durable decorative tape for bags, cushions, folk costume, curtains and anything in frequent use.

The tape is firmer than a simple woven band and adds a little bulk. Bear that in mind on edges meant to drape softly; on bags and decor the body is an advantage.

Stitch along both edges close to the border. On the reverse, loose threads sometimes run across the pattern – where they would show, fold the trim double or back it with a tape.

What separates jacquard from printed trims?

The pattern is woven in rather than printed on. It therefore stays sharp after many washes and does not rub away, while prints turn dull over time.

Can I take the trim around corners?

Only with pleats, as the tape is firmly woven and does not stretch. On curves a narrower band is the better choice, as it follows the line more easily.

Does jacquard trim shrink?

Hardly, it is densely woven. Still, wash it once beforehand if the finished piece will be washed – that avoids tension between trim and fabric.
