Cotton jersey is a knitted fabric and stretches across the grain. It sits softly, creases little and needs no zip, because the stretch is enough to step into the garment.

As part of the colour card, Vanessa carries the same numbers as the sweat, French terry and cuffing. That pays off with multi part designs: a shirt in Vanessa and a jacket in Eike in the same shade look like a set, without you having to compare colour samples.

Sew with a jersey needle and a stretch stitch or an overlocker. The cut edge curls; this disappears as soon as the seam is closed.

Good to know

How heavy is the jersey?

It sits in the middle range: firm enough not to be see through, light enough for summer shirts. For very fluid designs viscose jersey is softer, for sweatshirts brushed sweat suits better.

Does cotton jersey shrink?

A little in the first wash, hardly at all afterwards. Wash the fabric before cutting exactly as you will later care for the finished piece, and the fit stays reliable.

Why does the cut edge curl?

That is typical of jersey and comes from the loop structure. It is not a fault. As soon as the seam is closed and finished, the edge lies flat.
