Dunkelblau 596 is a deep, calm blue that leans towards navy and stays rich in daylight without looking harsh. As a solid basic it carries prints, appliqués and lighter cuff colours, and works just as well for plain everyday pieces.
This is a medium-weight jersey: at 220 g/m² it sits opaquely on the body, drapes softly with a little flow and does not sag at skirt panels. The blend of 95% cotton and 5% elastane gives a smooth surface that feels good against the skin, with noticeable crosswise stretch and good recovery.
At 150 cm wide there is room for broader pattern pieces. The fabric is certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100, washes at 30 °C and allows for around 5% residual shrinkage.
What Vanessa Dunkelblau is suitable for
- Shirts, long-sleeve tops and dresses, since 220 g/m² is opaque and the jersey drapes softly.
- Leggings and cycling shorts, because 5% elastane provides stretch and recovery.
- Children's clothes and bodysuits, as the smooth cotton surface feels pleasant on skin and is certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100.
- Dark basics to pair with bold prints, because solid Dunkelblau 596 stays quiet and grounded.

Frequently asked questions
Is the dark blue jersey opaque?
At 220 g/m² it counts as a medium-weight jersey with good coverage. In a dark shade opacity is even less of an issue than with pale colours, so dresses and skirts work well too.
How much does the fabric stretch?
Thanks to 5% elastane it stretches clearly across the width and springs back into shape. That makes it suitable for close-fitting patterns that rely on crosswise elasticity.
How should I care for it?
Wash at 30 °C, do not bleach, do not tumble dry and iron on a low setting. Treated this way, colour and elasticity stay intact through many wash cycles.
Do I need to allow for shrinkage?
Yes, residual shrinkage is around 5%. Wash the fabric once before cutting so finished garments do not come out shorter or tighter after their first wash.
