Grey 183 is a calm mid grey with no blue or brown cast – a shade that sits well next to prints and other plain colours and never looks out of place in a wardrobe.
Made from 94% cotton and 6% elastane, this jersey feels soft and smooth to the touch while still having enough body not to seem thin. At 220 g/m² it is a medium-weight knit: it drapes softly along the body without clinging, and the elastane content helps it spring back into shape after stretching. Stretch runs clearly across the width, with less give along the length.
The surface is even and matt, the reverse finely looped as you would expect. Certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and machine washable at 30 °C.

Is this jersey opaque enough for a dress?
At 220 g/m² Vanessa is a medium-weight jersey, and Grey 183 is nicely opaque. With the paler shades in the range it is worth holding the fabric up to the light, but this mid grey is generally no problem.
How much does the fabric stretch?
With 6% elastane it stretches noticeably across the width and returns to shape well. Lengthwise stretch is more limited. That makes it suitable for patterns that specify a stretch percentage for knit fabrics.
Should I pre-wash before cutting?
Yes, wash it once at 30 °C before cutting. Residual shrinkage is 5%, so a finished garment could otherwise feel noticeably smaller and tighter after its first trip through the machine.
Does the colour match other fabrics with code 183?
Yes. Colour code 183 runs true across the Swafing ranges, including French terry, brushed sweat and cuff fabric. That way a shirt, its cuffs and a matching jacket show no visible difference in shade.
