Terracotta 1714 is a warm, earthy orange that the melange effect makes calmer and deeper than a flat solid. Lighter and darker fibres are twisted together in the yarn, so the surface gets a fine texture instead of looking plain – handy for everyday clothes, as small marks show less.
The handle is soft with a slight coolness and a smooth face. At 220 g/m² Vanessa sits in the medium-weight range: it hangs quietly rather than standing away from the body, stays opaque in dresses and skirts, and is still soft enough for bodysuits and neckbands.
The 5% elastane gives the jersey recovery, so cuff areas, knees and elbows keep their shape. The fabric is certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100.
What Vanessa Terracotta is suitable for
- Tees, long-sleeved tops and dresses for adults and children, as 220 g/m² gives enough body for a quiet drape.
- Leggings and cycling shorts, since 5% elastane provides stretch and recovery at knees and waistband.
- Baby clothes such as bodysuits, rompers and hats, because 95% cotton and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification suit next-to-skin wear.
- Unlined dresses and skirts, as this medium-weight jersey stays opaque on its own.

Frequently asked questions
Is this jersey opaque enough for a dress?
Yes. At 220 g/m² Vanessa is a medium-weight jersey and stays opaque in dresses and skirts without feeling stiff. Very pale shades are worth holding up to the light, but Terracotta is no concern here.
How stretchy is the fabric?
With 5% elastane it stretches clearly across the width and springs back. That is enough for leggings, close-fitting tops and neckbands that should keep their shape after being pulled over the head.
How do I wash and care for it?
Wash at 30 °C, do not bleach, do not tumble dry, iron on a low setting. Residual shrinkage is 5%, so wash the fabric once before cutting your pattern pieces.
Does the colour match ribbing and other fabrics?
Colour code 1714 runs consistently through the Swafing range, so melange ribbing and French terry are available in the same shade. Top, trousers and jacket can be combined without a visible colour shift.
