A cut-away stabiliser is not torn off but trimmed around the design — the rest stays in the piece permanently. With knits that is the decisive difference: the fabric keeps stretching with every wear, and without lasting support the design sags after a few washes.

Soft´n Sheer Plus is built to stay in the garment. It resists stretch, drapes softly and sits comfortably against the skin. On thin knits it keeps the embroidery from fluttering or rippling later on.

To do its work it belongs in the hoop together with the fabric, not merely underneath it. After stitching, trim along the outer edge of the design and leave a narrow margin standing.

Good to know

Why hoop it instead of laying it underneath?

Because only shared tension really holds the fabric. If the stabiliser lies loose below, the knit can keep stretching inside the hoop and the design distorts despite the support.

How much margin should I leave when trimming?

A narrow margin about a finger wide is enough. Trim too close and edge stitches work loose over time; leave too much and the border shows from the outside.

Does the stabiliser scratch the skin?

No, that is what it was made for. On babywear and children's clothing a backing stabiliser over the reverse of the embroidery pays off as well, since there the thread ends rather than the stabiliser cause the scratching.
