Sulky Totally Stable – iron on, stitch, peel away without residue

Totally Stable is ironed on with moderate heat and holds the fabric firmly in place. After stitching you peel it away without residue. For stretchy fabrics and for buttonholes in knits it is the simplest answer.

With knits the trouble starts before the first stitch: the fabric stretches in the hoop, and what looked round under tension turns oval once released. An ironed-on stabiliser prevents exactly that, because the fabric cannot move in the first place.

The fusible coating is deliberately weak. It holds during the work but peels away afterwards without taking fibres along or leaving adhesive behind. Iron with moderate heat and no steam — moisture softens the bond too early.

Beyond embroidery the stabiliser earns its place wherever knitted cloth should lie still: under buttonholes, at necklines and for decorative stitches on jersey. Afterwards you peel it off and the fabric drapes as before.

What temperature should I use?

Moderate heat and no steam. Too hot and the coating fuses into the fabric and can no longer be removed cleanly; steam softens it so that it gives way while you are still stitching.

Is it suitable for buttonholes?

Yes, that is one of its main uses. In knitted cloth a buttonhole wanders without support and the bars come out uneven. The ironed-on stabiliser holds the spot until the stitch is finished.

Does adhesive stay on the fabric?

No. The coating is set up to stay entirely on the stabiliser when you peel it off. On very delicate surfaces such as velvet, test it on an offcut beforehand all the same.
