Sulky Filmoplast – for everything that cannot be hooped

Unit price €8.80 / m² · incl. VAT, plus shipping

Filmoplast is hooped on its own. You then score the backing paper, peel it off and press the fabric onto the exposed surface. That way you can stitch pieces which fit into no hoop at all.

About this range

Some places simply cannot be hooped: a collar, a cuff, the front of a cap, a patch pocket already sewn on. Forcing it distorts the finished piece, or the hoop will not close at all. A self-adhesive stabiliser solves this, because only the stabiliser itself gets hooped.

The routine never changes: hoop the stabiliser paper side up, score the paper with a needle point and peel it away across the middle. The adhesive layer lies underneath. Lay the fabric on, smooth it down — and only then start the machine.

After stitching you lift the fabric off and tear the remaining stabiliser away around the design. For firm or very stretchy fabrics the same idea comes one step heavier: Filmoplast Strong at 95 g/m².

Frequently asked questions

How do I score the backing paper properly?

With a needle point or a seam ripper, held flat and cutting through the paper only. Score a rectangle slightly smaller than the hoop, so enough paper remains around the edge to keep the hoop clean.

Does the adhesive hold on smooth fabrics?

On most, yes. With very smooth or coated surfaces, test on an offcut: if the fabric lifts while stitching, pin the edges outside the design area for extra security.

When should I use Filmoplast Strong?

When the fabric is firm, stretches a lot, or the design sets many stitches. The heavy version then pushes back better; for shirting, caps and light goods the standard Filmoplast is enough.
