Fabri Solvy weighs 40 g/m² and feels like a woven fabric, yet it is fully water-soluble. It shrugs off the warmth of the machine bed, can be hooped on its own and washes out without residue.

Water-soluble films have a drawback: they are slippery, shift in the hoop and react to the warmth building up at the machine bed. Fabri Solvy takes the other route — it behaves like a light woven and can therefore be gripped and hooped with confidence.

That makes it fit for the same jobs as a sturdy film: hoop it alone and stitch directly for free-standing lace designs. It works just as well laid over textured fabrics as a topping, or underneath as a backing, depending on where support is missing.

After stitching it washes out without residue. If you are looking for a printable and additionally self-adhesive version, you will find it in the heavier Sticky Fabri-Solvy.

Good to know

Why a stabiliser rather than a film?

Because it handles better: it does not slip in the hoop and takes the warmth of the machine bed. On long stitching runs that is a noticeable difference, especially with free-standing designs.

Topping or backing?

Either works. As a topping it holds down the pile of textured fabrics, as a backing it steadies the cloth from behind. What matters is where the support is missing — above on towelling, below on thin goods.

Does it really dissolve completely?

Yes, it washes out without residue. With dense designs, rinse more thoroughly, because more material sits between the stitches; warm water speeds up the dissolving noticeably.
