Sulky Filmoplast Strong – the same idea, one class stronger

Filmoplast Strong is the heavy version of the self-adhesive tear-away stabiliser: 95 g/m² instead of 50. It holds firm and very stretchy fabrics in place and carries designs with many stitches.

The principle matches the lighter Filmoplast: hoop the stabiliser alone, peel the backing paper away and press the fabric on. The difference lies in the weight — and that decides how much pull the adhesive surface takes before the fabric lifts.

At 95 g/m², Filmoplast Strong holds where the light version gives way: on sweatshirting and towelling, on very stretchy knits and under designs that set many stitches into a small area. Heavy bag panels stay flat with it too.

After stitching you lift the fabric off and tear the remains away. Because the stabiliser is sturdier, it pays to hold the embroidery back with one hand while tearing — then the edge stays clean.

Good to know

When is the light Filmoplast no longer enough?

As soon as the fabric wanders under needle pull or the adhesive area lifts at the edges. That happens above all with stretchy goods and dense fill stitches; the heavy version then brings the reserve you need.

Can the heavy stabiliser still be torn away easily?

Yes, it just takes a little more care. Hold the embroidery back with one hand while tearing and work in small steps, then nothing pulls at the design and the edge stays smooth.

Can I use it for caps?

Yes, that is where it shows its strength. The front of a cap cannot be hooped, and the sturdy material keeps the curved surface flat more reliably than a light adhesive stabiliser.
