The difference from tubular cuffing lies in the cutting: fabric by the metre comes flat, so you decide the width yourself. For wide cuffs on jackets or stripes running across a sleeve, that is the more suitable form.

When cutting, look at how the stripes run. If two cuffs sit side by side, on both sleeves for instance, the stripes should start at the same point – otherwise the pair looks restless.

Handle the fabric like any fine rib cuffing: cut shorter than the opening, stretch while attaching, sew with a jersey needle and a stretch stitch.

What is the difference from tubular cuffing?

Tubular cuffing is knitted in the round at a fixed width, fabric by the metre comes flat. By the metre you choose the width yourself, but need an extra seam if you want a ring.

How do I match the stripes on both sleeves?

Cut both cuffs from the same place in the fabric and mark which stripe sits at the seam. Then both sides begin identically and the pair looks calm.

Can I use striped cuffing as a main fabric?

For hats, snoods and short sleeves, yes. For whole shirts the fabric is too elastic and pulls in too strongly, making the fit hard to judge.
