Bows tied by hand rarely turn out identical. If you need ten matching ones, ready made saves time and gives a calmer result.

Attach them with a few stitches through the knot in the centre. The thread disappears between the loops there and cannot be seen from outside.

On clothing that gets washed, sew rather than glue. Satin and organza survive the machine, the glued spot does not.

On children's clothes the same applies as to all applied pieces: stitch firmly and check regularly. Small parts that work loose have no place on things for toddlers.

Good to know

How do I sew a bow on invisibly?

With a few stitches through the knot in the centre. The thread disappears between the loops there and cannot be seen from outside.

Do bows survive washing?

Sewn ones yes, glued ones no. Satin and organza tolerate a gentle machine wash; use a laundry bag so the loops do not distort.

Why buy bows instead of tying them?

Because they match. Hand tied bows turn out differently each time – with one that is fine, with ten the difference is obvious.
