Paper Solvy looks like paper and behaves like paper in a printer — except that it dissolves completely in warm water afterwards. That lets you print, draw or copy embroidery and sewing templates and transfer them straight onto fabric. Its weight is 60 g/m².
Beyond transferring templates the paper serves as a stabilising base for sewing and stitching. In patchwork that is particularly handy: sewing by numbers, mini quilts and crazy work with decorative stitches all succeed without marked lines on the fabric. Can I print on it?
Yes, it is made to be printed, written and copied on. Before the first sheet check your printer manual: not every machine feeds paper of this weight smoothly, and a single-sheet feed is the safer route.
How do I remove the paper again?
Rinse in warm water until nothing feels stiff any more. Coarse remnants can be torn off first. No residue stays behind as long as you rinsed thoroughly — if in doubt, rinse a second time in clear water.
What do I need water-soluble paper for?
For anything that has to reach the fabric without leaving visible lines behind. In quilting and patchwork it replaces marking entirely, because the template simply disappears once the work is done.
How do I store the sheets?
Dry and flat, ideally in their original packaging. Humidity turns water-soluble material soft and wavy, and then no printer will feed it straight any more.
