Free-standing lace, emblems and 3D work are made on Ultra Solvy — with no fabric beneath, because the film carries them. At 50 cm wide and 5 m on the roll there is material for several projects. This web is available in Transparent.
Opened stock belongs in the dry: humidity softens it before it is ever used. Water-soluble stabilisers solve what no other material can: they disappear completely. What remains after rinsing is the embroidery alone. Before the first design on a new fabric, a test piece with the same material pays off.

Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
What if the fabric cannot take water?
Then a heat-soluble film is the right choice. It is removed with an iron after stitching, so the fabric never gets wet. On silk and coated fabrics that is regularly the better choice.
How do I hoop it?
Taut, but without pulling. Water-soluble material tears more easily than a stabiliser, especially at the clamp edges. On thin stock a second layer helps.
Can I use offcuts?
Yes, for small designs. Separate stuck layers dry; damp fingers soften them in patches and then they never come apart cleanly. They are best kept flat and dry.
Which thread suits it?
A colourfast embroidery thread that takes water — with free-standing lace the whole design ends up washed. Polyester is the least complicated choice. Cotton thread works too, though it loses some sheen in water.
