Stitched on, the braid reads as a continuous zigzag line. Set into a seam it shows only half points and looks like a fine toothed edge – the two options need different amounts of room at the seam.

To stitch it on, sew down the middle of the braid. Take care not to stretch it; otherwise the seam draws in later and the fabric puckers.

On curves the braid follows better than a straight tape, because the points can be eased. Press it into the desired shape first and it will lie neatly.

Good to know

Should I stitch ric rac on or sew it in?

Both are common. Stitched on it shows the full zigzag line, set in only the points. Decide by the effect you want and the room at the seam.

How do I get ric rac around a curve?

Press it into the curve first and it keeps the shape. Because the points can be eased, it follows curves better than a straight tape.

Where do I stitch when attaching it?

Down the middle of the braid, so both rows of points stand out equally. A seam at the edge lets the braid lift later.
