Description

Aida is the fabric for cross stitch: its threads are bundled into blocks with clearly visible holes between them. You do not need to count threads, you can see where the needle goes. This band is 7,5 cm wide and made from 100 % cotton. Unlike Aida by the metre it has woven selvedges that do not fray, so there is no need to bind the edges. It is meant for embroidered trims: name bands, borders on towels, cushions and bags. Sold by the metre from 0,2 metres.

Frequently asked questions

What is Aida?

A fabric in which several threads are bundled into one block. Visible holes remain between the blocks, and you stitch into those. Cross stitches come out even without counting individual threads.

Do I need to finish the edges?

No. The long edges of this band are woven and will not fray. Only the cut ends are worth securing, with a small hem, a little fabric glue or a row of zigzag so that nothing works loose.

Which thread suits it?

Stranded cotton is usual, using two or three strands depending on the coverage you want. Try it on a scrap: too few strands look thin, too many force the weave apart.

Can I wash the finished band?

Yes, cotton takes washing. Wash it gently and press the embroidery from the back on a soft towel, so the stitches keep their relief instead of being flattened.
