Kordeln 7 mm

Seven millimetres is noticeably sturdier than the standard size. The cord fills the hand, takes plenty of strain and suits bags, rucksacks, drawstring backpacks with heavy contents and decoration.

The thicker the cord, the better it spreads pressure. As a carrying loop on a drawstring backpack it cuts in far less than a thin one – with a full load you notice immediately.

In return it needs more room. Eyelets, channels and stoppers have to be correspondingly large, or the cord cannot be threaded or jams when adjusted.

This size has its place in decoration too: as a curtain tieback, a handle on baskets or a visible design feature on cushions.

To secure the ends, use large end caps or a firm knot. With synthetic fibre, melt the end briefly so it does not unravel.

When is the thicker cord worthwhile?

When it has to carry weight or is handled often: drawstring backpacks with heavy contents, bag handles, tiebacks. The larger diameter spreads pressure across the hand.

Does 7 mm fit through ordinary eyelets?

Often not. Check the inner width of eyelets, patches and stoppers before buying – hardware for five millimetres is usually too tight for this size.

How wide does the channel need to be?

At least twice the diameter, so the cord can move freely. A channel that is too narrow slows it down and pulling becomes hard work.
