Unlike coated tapes, the shine sits in the yarn itself. It therefore does not rub off and survives several washes, as long as they are gentle.

Six millimetres is an easy size to grip. The cord passes through most eyelets and stoppers and works as a drawstring as readily as a visible decorative element.

Use a fresh needle when sewing. Metallic threads are hard and blunt the point faster than plain textile yarns.

The ends fray and should be secured. An end cap, a firm knot or a brief touch of flame on synthetic fibre holds the cord together permanently.

Does the shine rub off over time?

No, the lurex thread is woven in rather than applied. With gentle washing the shimmer remains; hot washing and tumble drying do damage the thread.

Does the cord scratch against the skin?

Metallic threads can feel slightly firmer than pure cotton. On hoods and cuffs with skin contact it is worth feeling a sample first.

Does the cord fit through ordinary eyelets?

Six millimetres fits through most eyelets and cord stoppers. Still check the inner width if the hardware is intended for thinner cords.
