Twisted Cord 10 mm

At one centimetre in diameter the twisted cord is mainly decoration. It carries heavy bags, holds curtains and draws a clear line on cushions and baskets.

Twisted cords are made by twisting several strands together. That gives the surface its characteristic spiral structure, which catches light differently from a smoothly braided cord.

Take care when cutting: a twisted cord unwinds at the open end immediately. Wrap the spot with tape before cutting and secure the end straight afterwards.

End caps, a firm knot or, with synthetic fibre, a brief touch of flame will secure it. Without securing, the twist gradually unravels along the whole length.

At this size the cord often replaces webbing or ready made handles. Allow generously when cutting, as knots and loops use noticeable length.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the cord as a bag handle?

Yes, that is a common use. Attach it with end caps or stitched loops and reinforce the fixing point in the fabric so it does not pull out.

How much length do I need?

More than the visible run. Knots, loops and fixings use length; for handles allow at least twenty centimetres extra at each end.

How do I stop it unwinding?

Wrap it with tape before cutting and secure it immediately afterwards – with an end cap, a knot or, with synthetic fibre, by briefly melting the end.
