Solvy is Sulky's thin water-soluble film. It goes on top of high-pile fabrics so the stitches do not sink into the pile. The roll is 50 cm wide and 25 m long. This version comes in Transparent.
After stitching you tear off the bulk and rinse the rest in water until nothing feels stiff. Sulky lists its water-soluble materials in several strengths — from a thin film used as a topping to a firm web that carries free-standing lace. Store it dry, flat and without creases. It ships singly, so you can restock exactly what you need.

Sewing tips
- Die Folie auf den Stoff legen und beides zusammen einspannen.
- Nach dem Sticken die Reste abreißen und den Rest auswaschen.

Frequently asked questions
Cold or warm water?
Warm dissolves faster. Cold works too but takes longer. With delicate threads the slower cold-water route pays off, since the thread takes less strain.
Why does the lace stay stiff?
Because material is still sitting in the design. Rinsing longer softens it. The effect also works the other way: rinse deliberately short and free-standing lace stays firmer.
Why do I need a topping?
For terry, fleece and anything with a pile. Without one the stitches vanish between the loops and the design reads ragged rather than clean. After rinsing, nothing of the aid stays behind in the pile.
How do I stitch free-standing lace?
Hoop the material on its own, doubled if it is thin, and stitch the design straight onto it. Rinse afterwards — what remains is thread alone.
