Tear Away Plus is Sulky's medium-weight tear-away stabiliser. It holds even dense designs in shape and tears away cleanly afterwards. The roll is 50 cm wide and 10 m long. At 50 g/m² it sits in the medium part of the Sulky range.
A tear-away stabiliser goes under your fabric and is torn off close to the design afterwards. Whatever stays between narrow parts comes out with tweezers. Sulky grades its stabilisers by weight so the right one can be matched to the fabric. Within a line only colour and size change, never the character.
What Sulky Tear Away Plus Schwarz is suitable for
- machine embroidery on wovens
- designs with high stitch density
- appliqué and monograms
Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
How do I tear it off properly?
Close to the stitching and without pulling at your fabric. Hold the design with one hand and draw the stabiliser away with the other. Bits between narrow parts come out with tweezers.
White or black?
White under pale fabrics, black under dark ones. At the edges of a design the stabiliser always shows a little, and a white line under dark cloth catches the eye at once.
Does tear-away suit jersey?
Only partly. Stretch fabrics need lasting support, which a tear-away no longer gives once removed. There a cut-away stabiliser that stays in the piece is the right choice.
Does anything remain after washing?
No, provided you tore it off cleanly. Small remnants under dense stitching usually drop out in the first wash. Anything that will not come loose was stitched in too firmly.
