Tear Away Plus is Sulky's medium-weight tear-away stabiliser. It holds even dense designs in shape and tears away cleanly afterwards. It ships as a roll 50 cm wide and 10 m long. At 50 g/m² it sits in the medium part of the Sulky range.
Tear it off only once the design is finished, and without pulling, or your embroidery distorts. A stabiliser is no substitute for a hoop: you still clamp taut, otherwise even the heaviest material achieves nothing. It ships singly, so you can restock exactly what you need.
What Sulky Tear Away Plus Weiß is suitable for
- machine embroidery on wovens
- appliqué and monograms
- embroidery on cotton and linen
Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
How do I tear it off properly?
Close to the stitching and without pulling at your fabric. Hold the design with one hand and draw the stabiliser away with the other. Bits between narrow parts come out with tweezers.
How do I recognise the right weight?
From your fabric and design: the thinner the fabric and the denser the stitching, the more hold is needed. When unsure, add a layer of the light one rather than reaching for a heavy web.
How large should I cut the stabiliser?
Slightly larger than your hoop so it can be clamped all round. Cut too close, it slips out of the clamp while stitching and then holds nothing at all.
Do I have to change the needle?
Not because of the stabiliser, but regularly in general. A blunt needle punches instead of piercing, and on dense designs you notice that first as thread breaks and frayed holes.
