The effect comes either from woven in metallic threads or from a coated surface. Woven threads last longer, while coated ribbons shine more evenly.

When sewing, use a new, fine needle. Metallic threads are hard and blunt the point faster than plain textile tapes.

Coated qualities do not tolerate heat. Press only from the reverse with a cloth, or skip pressing altogether so the glitter layer does not melt or turn dull.

Used sparingly, glitter works best: a narrow strip at a hem or pocket edge catches the eye without dominating the whole garment. For large areas, printed fabric is the calmer choice.

Does glitter ribbon lose its shine in the wash?

Woven metallic threads hold up well. Coated ribbons can turn dull under friction; wash these cool, in a laundry bag and without tumble drying.

Can I press glitter ribbon?

Only from the reverse, with a cloth and at low temperature. Coatings melt under direct heat; when in doubt, leave the pressing out.

Which needle is suitable?

A fine, fresh universal needle. Metallic threads are hard and blunt the point faster, which leads to untidy stitches and thread breaks.
