Because the colours come from the yarn, the motif stays sharp after many washes. On the reverse the pattern appears mirrored, usually in muted colours.

To attach, stitch along both edges close to the border. On clothing the ribbon then lies flat and does not lift in the wash; a fabric glue stick holds it in place while sewing.

Woven ribbons also work as an edge finish on bags or as handle reinforcement. Folded double they make a strong loop that adds hardly any bulk.

How do I attach a woven ribbon neatly?

Fix it with fabric glue or clips and stitch close along both edges. Sew both sides in the same direction and the ribbon will not distort.

Does a woven ribbon shrink in the wash?

Hardly, it is densely woven. For clothing washed hot, pre washing is still worthwhile so ribbon and fabric behave the same later.

Can I use woven ribbons as bag handles?

For light bags yes, preferably folded double or backed with webbing. On its own a narrow ribbon does not carry enough when the bag is heavily loaded.
