Weight is the key difference from light trims. On thin fabrics a beaded trim pulls the edge down; there you should stabilise the fabric with interfacing.

Attachment is usually by hand, because the machine catches on beads and needles can break. Small stitches between the beads create an invisible and durable join.

Finished pieces are only conditionally washable. Beads can come loose or turn dull; hand washing or professional cleaning is the safe choice.

Buy the length generously. Beaded trims cannot be pieced at will, as every join stays visible and interrupts the sequence of beads.

Can I attach beaded trim by machine?

Usually not. The needle hits beads and breaks. Sew by hand with small stitches between the beads – it takes longer but holds better.

Do I need interfacing under the trim?

With light fabrics, yes. The weight of the beads otherwise pulls the edge down. A narrow interfacing or an extra tape behind the trim solves the problem.

How do I clean items with beaded trim?

By hand or have them cleaned professionally. In a machine, friction loosens beads and the surface can turn dull. Dry the piece flat so the weight does not pull the trim out of shape.
