Faux Leather and Woven Labels

A label turns a sewn piece into a finished product. Whether faux leather or woven, lettered or plain – it sets the final note on bags, clothing, cushions and children's wear.

Faux leather labels look clear and modern and suit bags, rucksacks and denim. Woven labels are softer and sit more comfortably against the skin – which is why they usually go into clothing, often at the neck or in a side seam.

Attach them either all round close to the edge or on two sides only, so the label stands free. With faux leather: clips instead of pins and a longer stitch, as needle marks stay visible.

Labels caught in a seam look especially neat. Place the label folded edge inwards between two fabric layers and sew the seam over it.

For clothing meant to be sold, separate rules apply: care instructions and fibre content are required. A design label does not replace them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I attach a faux leather label?

Fix it with clips, set a longer stitch and sew all round close to the edge. Pins leave permanent holes – baste at most within the seam line.

Where is the best place for a label?

Somewhere visible but not intrusive: a side seam, the top of a pocket, the hem or the neck. What matters is that it does not rub against the skin.

Does a label replace care labelling?

No. Anyone selling clothing has to label fibre content and care separately. A design label is decoration, not a legal statement.
