Description
A right angle can be made with a straight ruler, but only awkwardly. This ruler brings one with it: one leg lies along the edge, the other points away at exactly ninety degrees. That comes up constantly — marking hems, checking the grain line, shaping corners and placing pattern pieces against the fabric edge. The ruler is transparent and printed with a grid, so you see what lies beneath as you draw. Leg length 16 cm. Hems show the difference best: an edge that is not square stands out immediately on the finished piece.
What Set Square Ruler 16 cm is suitable for
- Marking hems
- Checking the grain line
- Shaping corners
- Placing pattern pieces at the edge
Frequently asked questions
Why do I need a set square?
For anything that must sit at right angles to an edge: hems, grain lines, corners, pattern pieces against the fabric edge. With a straight ruler the angle has to be constructed each time.
Why is it transparent?
So you can see what lies under the ruler as you draw. Marks, pattern lines and fabric edges can be hit exactly, instead of disappearing beneath an opaque ruler.
Does the ruler warp?
Not with normal handling. Keep it flat and out of the sun and the angle stays true. A bent ruler no longer shows a right angle and becomes useless for the job.
Can I cut along it?
Not with a rotary cutter: the edge is not built as a cutting edge and will pick up nicks. For marking with pencil or chalk it is exactly right.
